To continue our month-long topic of women’s self defense, today we are going to cover self defense books. “There is nothing more dangerous than a pissed off woman. It is important for us to be our own best protectors,” says Erin Weed, author of Girls Fight Back.
Knowledge is power and these books are packed with knowledge. Take a look at what each book covers and pick the one(s) best for you. There are a lot of great options. You may want to consider getting some as gifts as well – every woman should know how to defend herself. I know I’ll be adding a few to my collection.

Description:
Some ‘experts’ say that you should be submissive when attacked at home or by a stranger. You won’t find that advice here, although you might use it as a ruse before you claw your assailant’s eyes and annihilate his groin. Your ultimate goal is to get away but you don t achieve that by being meek and docile. You get away by drawing on that hard-wired survival instinct to attack him like an enraged lioness protecting its babies. In Fight Back: A Woman’s Guide to Self-defense that Works, martial arts experts Loren W. Christensen and Lisa Place teach you to use your hands, forearms, elbows, teeth, knees and feet to survive the type of attack that unsuspecting women become the victims of every day. And you will learn that you’re surrounded by a limitless cache of weapons that you can use to your advantage against a larger assailant. If you’re ready to learn to fight back, Loren and Lisa know exactly what you need to survive an attack in your home or on the street.

From the psychological impact of trauma and how it destroys self-protective capacity, to the who, what, where, and how of violence against women, this book promotes hope, knowledge, skill building and competency as counteractions to fear and violence. Lifelines advances personal safety by weaving the personal, the political, and the pragmatic on a subject often ignored and systematically distorted. This book articulates the necessity and means for women to strengthen individual resources to care for themselves, to embrace safety, to learn defensive skills and behaviors, and ultimately promotes a social permission to do so.

Self-Defense for Peaceable People is an accessible, authoritative introduction to the art of unarmed self-defense. While compatible with all existing martial arts systems, the method requires no training or experience at all, and is especially suited to those who simply want a realistic command of basic self-defense. Drawing on a 20-year career in law enforcement and a lifelong practice of martial arts, John Townsend explains clearly and succinctly the philosophy and theory behind self-defense, and describes the types of attacks that can happen in different situations. Realistic photo sequences illustrate in detail the evasion and counterattack techniques that enable readers to defend themselves effectively in any real-world situation, regardless of size, gender, age, or strength. Armed only with these simple techniques, readers gain a new sense of freedom, personal confidence, and peace of mind.

“To take control of your everyday safety, you need strength, courage and common sense,” says Kathleen Baty, founder of SafetyChick Enterprises and author of A Girl’s Gotta Do What A Girl’s Gotta Do. Knowing self defense and being aware doesn’t mean that you are paranoid but means you are prepared. Make the decision today to start living smart and doing what you can to be prepared and protect yourself.
Happy Shooting!
